No Second Chances?

Here’s a comment I got from a reader today:

Hi Susan, you are an outstanding professional that mean well and helping others is in your personality, your impacable reputation is priceless. I appreciate John’s comment but I’ve already seen this link as it’s more than a year old. John’s comment was in response to an email that I sent out this week endorsing a product of Perry’s on Social Media.  Mind you this is a product that I actually have and am using with good results so far.

I know Perry and I like Perry. More importantly, I respect Perry.  He’s an outstanding marketer, has a huge heart and I have learned more from him and his partner Ryan than any one else in the internet marketing space.  And that’s saying a lot.

I know that it’s human nature to want to look for the worst in people. And if you look hard enough you can dig up dirt on anyone. Probably even me.  The difference is that Perry’s never hidden the fact that he made a mistake. Quite the opposite in fact, he’s totally open and honest about it. But don’t take my word for it. So, if I recommend a product that I think is excellent by someone with a “skeleton in his closet” does that automatically call my credibility into question?  It seems a slippery slope to me.

Do people make mistakes? Yes. Does that mean that they have nothing left to contribute? I don’t think so. Do you?
