Tools to Help With Your Resolutions

Ok, it’s almost the New Year and it’s time for resolutions.

This is not going to be a post about how to make resolutions or what they should be. Although, I can share that “Quit biting my fingernails” will be added to the 2009 list. It’s been on the list since 1973, but hey, maybe 2009 will be the year.

This is a post to share some new (free) tools with you that I personally have implemented to help me set goals and stay productive.

Todoist
Todoist is a cool, simple project manager. You simply add projects and then add related tasks underneath the project. The coolest thing about this tool is that it has a “sidebar widget” so that my tasks are always displayed on the right side of my monitor when I have the “sidebar” enabled.

Highly recommend this tool – it’s free, easy to use and it will stay right in front of you at all times. If you want. :-)

Rescue Time

Have you ever found yourself in what I refer to as my OCD work cycle? Check Outlook email, check Yahoo email, check Gmail, Check Adwords pay per click stats, check sales stats, check headlines at cnn.com and then start all over again?

It’s not a very productive work day (to say the least) and I know I waste a lot of time, I just had NO IDEA how much. Well, Rescue Time tells me exactly how much time I waste. It’s a time management program that tracks what you do on your computer and will graphically display exactly how much time you spend on each activity. I’ve been using it for a week and let’s just say it could have been a more productive week.

You can also set goals and it’ll send alerts. Like alert me when I’ve been on Facebook for more than 10 minutes. :-)

There you go! My best two tools to keep us ALL on track to accomplish our goals in 2009.
